Meet Dr. Kristen Currie
Dr. Kristen Currie is our newest pediatrician at Visalia Medical Center Get to know a little bit
about her in this physician spotlight.

What influenced you to become a physician?
I was 7 years old when my youngest brother was born premature. I was impacted by the
experience of seeing the doctors and nurses caring for him in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU). I was so happy when he was well enough to come home that I decided I would be a
doctor for babies when I grew up. My father was also a physician and an encouraging positive
role model.

What do you like about living in Tulare County?>
I love the friendly community, the sunshine, the fresh produce and agriculture, and that we are
just a few hours’ drive from anything you could want to do.

Where did you grow up?
Melbourne Beach, Florida

Where is the farthest you have been from home?
My farthest trip so far has been to Turkey. I spent a week on a boat exploring different cities
along the coast.

What type of pets do you have?
I have a dog named Tilly. I passed her in the window of a rescue center and decided to stop in
“just to say hi and pet her for a minute.” She stole my heart and now she’s the most spoiled gal
on the west coast.

What's the most important advice you have for patients?
Involve your children in their own healthcare as much as possible and don’t underestimate the
importance of prevention – it’s much better to prevent an illness than to have to treat it!

A pediatrician is a child's physician who provides preventive health maintenance for healthy children, medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill. Pediatricians manage the physical, mental, and emotional well being of their patients, in every stage of development, in good health
or in illness.

Generally, pediatricians focus on babies, children, adolescents, and young adults from birth to age 21 years to reduce infant and child mortality, control infectious disease, foster healthy lifestyles and ease the difficulties of children and adolescents with chronic conditions. www.webmd.com
